These properties explain why <a href=\"https:\/\/fenoquimica.es\/en\/sin-categoria\/origin-thermosetting-compounds-bakelite-phenolic-resins\/\">materials such as <b>Bakelite <\/b>have been used for decades in demanding industrial applications<\/a>, and why modern phenolic compounds continue to evolve to meet new challenges. <\/p><p>But how far can these materials go? One of the answers can be found in the aerospace sector. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-26785e3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"26785e3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The Galileo Probe Heat Shield<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1599b6a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1599b6a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>One of the most extreme applications of phenolic materials was the <strong><b>Galileo probe<\/b><\/strong>, developed by NASA to study Jupiter. Its entry capsule travelled through Jupiter\u2019s atmosphere at more than<strong><b> 170,000 km\/h<\/b><\/strong>.<\/p><p>To withstand these conditions, <strong><b>the capsule was protected by an ablative carbon-phenolic heat shield<\/b><\/strong>, made from carbon fibres impregnated with phenolic resin.<\/p><p>During atmospheric entry, the material decomposes and erodes in a controlled manner, absorbing and dissipating part of the thermal energy and protecting the inside of the capsule.<br\/><a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/mission\/galileo\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br\/>NASA \u2013 Galileo Mission to Jupiter<\/a><br\/><br\/>Phenolic-based materials have also been used in the thermal protection systems of other space missions, such as Orion, as part of NASA\u2019s Artemis programme.<br\/><br\/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/image-article\/orion-re-entry\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASA \u2013 Orion re-entry<\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9298f97 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9298f97\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Why Are Thermosets Used in High-Temperature Applications?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1515e8f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1515e8f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe answer lies in the combination of properties offered by <b>thermosets<\/b>.
